Need a change from the winter weather? Don’t worry, spring is just around the corner! Spring unlocks a whole sea of fun spring activities and adventures that you and your kids can enjoy together. Check out some local Kenosha and Racine activities to start planning and looking forward to. From hiking and picnics to gardening and outdoor sports, there are plenty of spring activities for everyone to enjoy.
1) Hiking
Nature-loving families will enjoy a beautiful hike together! As the weather gets warmer and the flowers start to bloom, many families take to the trails to explore the beauty of nature. Pringle Nature Center at Bristol Woods Park, Richard Bong State Recreation Area, and Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary and Arboretum are great places for self-guided hikes, as well as naturalist-led bird walks, wildflower hikes, and candlelight hikes.
Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just starting out, there are plenty of trails to choose from, from easy nature walks to more challenging hikes. If you’re looking for a fun and easy way to spend some quality time together, a family hike is a perfect choice.
2) Family Bike Ride
Children of all ages can benefit from taking a leisurely nature stroll, regardless of their age or ability to ride a bike independently. Children who can’t yet ride a bike should use a stroller or wagon. Even riding in the backseat of a wagon can introduce kids to the sights, sounds, and animals of the outdoors. If your kids are able to ride a bike on their own, you can all enjoy quality time together while getting in your daily exercise!
No matter what ability or style of cycling you like, there is a trail for you and your group, from paved routes along Lake Michigan to off-road trails all around the county. There are more than 130 miles of bike trails in Kenosha County including Kenosha County Bike Trial, Pike Bike Trail, and Silver Lake Park!
3) Playing Or Watching Sports
Outdoor sports are also a great way to enjoy the spring weather. From baseball and soccer to frisbee and kickball, there are plenty of options to choose from. Not only is it a great way to get some exercise, but it also allows families to bond and have fun together.
If watching sports is more so your style, get out to a baseball game! Grab a jumbo pretzel and cheer on the Brewers in an actual game or watch some Spring Training exhibitions. The first Spring training game is February 25th, the season is almost here!
4) The Kenosha Public Museum
I think we can all agree that kids are VERY curious little people, always asking a lot of questions. The Kenosha Public Museum is perfect for that little inquiring mind. The Field Station gives kids the opportunity to get an up-close look at fossils, insects, and shells. Additionally from now until March 29th, your preschoolers can learn about science and the world around them at Museum Muchkins! Each week they can explore different animals through songs, stories, and activities. They might even teach you a thing or two!
5) The Racine Zoo
This is the perfect animaltastic adventure for your little one! For many animal species that you would otherwise have to go all the way to Milwaukee to see, the Racine Zoo is the ideal weekend getaway. It’s the best place for your child to learn and have fun because there are such a huge variety of kid-friendly activities and programs available. Children under 2 years old are completely free and tickets only cost between $6 – $8.
